The popup Forcedscan.com when I’m running Mozilla Firefox makes me annoyced in my very early morning.
The popup says:
ATTENTION: If your computer is struck by the virus, you could suffer data loss, erratic PC behaviour, PC freezes and creahes.
Detect and remove viruses before they damage your computer!
Antivirus 2009 will perform a 100% FREE and quick scan of your computer for Viruses, Spyware and Adware.
Do you want to install Antivirus 2009 to scan your computer for malware now? (Recommended)
Forcedscan asks us to click OK or Cancel.
I do NOTHING. Even don’t click “Close”. Just leave it alone. Then, as usual, Google it!
With the keyword “Forcedscan”, 122 results found. It must be a new threat.
My guess is right. All topics about the popup Forcedscan are created couple of days ago.
To some at Yahoo! Answers, this popup will lead us to a scam site, that is, a fake site of Antivirus 2009 in this case. (Scam is a slang term for a fraud or confidence trick. Phishing is one of the largest Internet related scams. See more on Scam definition here)
There’s a new topic at Mozilla Firefox discussing about Forcedscan. But I don’t take their advice yet. Simply I want to test my local Antivirus named BKAV.
First I update virus definitions for Symantec Antivirus then do a quick scan. Nothing found.
Next run my Trojan Remover. Oops, its expired!
Then finally, I download the latest version of BKAV from here. Run it and 1 virus found, which is named W32.ShopperC.Adware.
BKAV, the most powerful Antivirus program from Vietnam, has an English interface. So you can use it to scan and kill viruses/adwares/spywares/trojans. It has 2 editions, free (BKAVHome) and paid (BKAVPro). But for me, the BKAVHome is enough.
Restart my PC, I get no more popup.
My recent actions before this popup appears? Well, yesterday, I searched some tips to download Googledocs. Maybe the following may cause:
- Lifehacker.com (try this, if you’re ready). This site introduces 2 extentions below. Maybe I clicked some links in this site as well.
- DownThemAll extension
- Greasemonkey extension
Hmm, too many words for a Forcedscan popup! But I hope this helps some victims, esp newbies.
